Atmos has been operating for years and in those years they have created some of the most innovative products on the market. Their portable vape pens are generally super discreet and work with either wax and concentrates or dry herbs. In the past, most Atmos herbal vapes have been combustion which definitely leaves a bad taste in your mouth. This Atmos portable dry herb vape pen, the Atmos Orbit, is one of their first to boast true vaporization. Let’s see how Atmos has truly mastered the art of true vaporization in portable vaporizer.
The Basics of the Orbit Vape
This portable herb vape pen, Atmos Orbit, is made from an anodized metal shell with a ceramic chamber and rubber mouthpiece. There is a sort of faux leather wrapped around the bottom of the piece to help with insulation. The Orbit is about 7’’ high and 0.5’’ in diameter. It is charged using a mini-USB that plugs into the side of the Atmos Orbit. The battery attains a full charge quite quickly, however it also runs out quite quickly. You can get about 50-60 minutes of continuous use out of the vaporizer, which decreases a bit when turning it on and off for separate sessions. It also features a 3.5 minute shut off feature to maintain battery life.
The herb chamber features an embedded heating element which ensures that the heating element never touches the herbs directly. This is why the Atmos Orbit can be considered pure vaporization instead of combustion, although by proxy the ceramic heating chamber does heat the herbs directly but the element itself never makes contact. As a result of this heating process the flowers are vaped evenly without wasting any greens. However the hits can tend to be more harsh and hot because of the chamber’s close proximity to the mouthpiece. There is a really handy light in the herb chamber that helps to pack herbs under any circumstances. You can also take a look into the chamber during your session to see how vaped it is with the light.
As far as portability goes this seems to be a viable option as long as you carry a vape pen carry case. It is small enough and light enough to fit into your pocket, however it is just large enough to be a nuisance while it’s there. Going along with the theme of portability is always discretion; how discreet will it hit? This vaporizer doesn't garner the highest ranking in discretion. Since it is a dry herb vape that uses a bit of combustion (through the ceramic heated chamber) it will have a bit of a scent of vaped herbs on exhalation. It also looks like a smoking device, it is a bit chunkier than some of the more discreet vapes, so people will look twice if you are vaping right in the public eye. Although I don’t rank it the highest for both discretion and portability, I also don’t rank it the lowest. It isn’t very large, bulky or heavy like the Mighty vaporizer so it will travel easily. Just make sure you keep in mind how short the battery life is before travelling sans charger.
Atmos Orbit dry herb vaporizer is fairly easy to use. They feature only one temperature setting and have a one button functionality. Just simply load the herbs, start the heating element, wait a moment and then push the button and pull. If you’re new to vaporizing then you’ll find yourself comfortable with this unit. As far as ease of use goes, this one is as good as it gets. Simple to use and a pretty good quality vapor to show for it. Just remember that you need to use ground herbs for it to vaporize better.
If you are more experienced in vaporizing then you’ll probably be a bit underwhelmed with this portable vape pen for one main reason. Most portable dry herb vape pens come with temperature setting abilities because some vapers don’t always use the same herbs. Different herbs vaporize at different temperatures.
You’ll definitely want to stir your buds mid-session for optimal vaping, but the light makes it truly easy to undertake. We really loved the feature of the LED light in the chamber. It helped to pack and maintain the bowl. The auto shut off is a bit short for the seasoned vaporizer veteran. You’ll generally find yourself with the piece shutting off mid-session. Aside from these issues you would definitely appreciate the clean vapor, albeit a little warm from the proximity of the heating chamber to the mouthpiece.
How to Use the Atmos Orbit:
- Finely grind your dry herbs, unscrew the mouthpiece of the unit and fill the cylindrical chamber ¾ of the way full. Do not overstuff, this leads to a gross taste and wasted herbs. Screw the mouthpiece back on.
- Click the power button of the Orbit 5 times in a row to activate. After the light turns on hold the button down once more for 4 consecutive seconds, the LED light will light red when the unit has begun heating. Once the piece is finished heating it will light green, about 60 seconds.
- Hold the button down, apply your lips to the mouthpiece and draw in air for 1-5 seconds and release.
- After 3.5 minutes the piece will shut off to preserve battery. To turn off on your own simply hit the power button 5 times fast.
I would definitely recommend the Atmos Orbit for beginning vapers but not for the experts. The learning curve would be far less steep learning of the Atmos Orbit over something like the Haze Dual Chamber Vaporizer V3. We are not a huge fan of the lack of temperature settings but I would still recommend this to beginners. Temperature settings are a more intermediate interest anyways. Grab this vaporizer if you’re new to the experience or want something that is quick to load and vape. The heat up time is pretty excellent and the portability is still great.
